I am so excited to announce that I am using this amazing platform I have started building for myself to highlight a different charity every single month. For the month of February, I will be highlighting a charity that is very close to my heart, Our House.
Our House is a homeless shelter here in Little Rock, Arkansas that provides services for the homeless and near homeless people in our community. They have a shelter, family housing, education programs, after school programs, a job center, and so much more!
In this episode of The Empathy Bug I had the pleasure of interviewing Sierra Fisher, their Community Engagement VISTA about her work at Our House. I learned a lot about this shelter that I didn’t know before, including service that they offer for family and individuals that are in poverty but aren’t homeless yet.
The homeless epidemic is an issue that affects all of us, from the taxpayers to the families stuck in the never-ending cycle of generational poverty. Fisher and I spoke about what causes homelessness, some of the myths about it, and what we can do to help. I truly enjoyed this interview and I am so grateful for all of the work that Our House and other shelters do for our community.
So tell me, what do you think the main cause of homelessness is and what should we do to fix it?
